Xilinx surged 14.1%, following reports that Advanced Micro Devices is in advanced talks to acquire the specialty chipmaker. HCA Healthcare added 1.6%, after announcing that it will return around $6.0 billion in government aid it had received as part of coronavirus relief funding. Gilead Sciences rose 0.8%, after the drugmaker released final data from a study of its Remdesivir anti-viral treatment showing that the drug cut recovery time by five days compared to patients who received a placebo. On the flipside, AT&T fell 1.0%, after the company announced plans to cut jobs in its WarnerMedia unit in an effort to cut costs by up to 20%. The S&P 500 gained 0.9%, to settle at 3,477.1. The DJIA rose 0.6%, to settle at 28,586.9, while the NASDAQ added 1.4%, to close at 11,579.9. .
