That might be changing. “In this most recent rally… we instead see call vols / skew staying very firm” suggesting investors may believe “this rally is ‘different’,” Charlie said. “Upside is not being faded or monetized,” he added, on the way to flagging evidence of client demand for “actual hedging,” where the operative word is “actual.” In essence, McElligott said top-down conviction in the idea that earnings season will be defined by misses and guidedowns is at risk of being wrong-footed. Corporate profits may be the next shoe to drop, but there’s no guarantee it drops now. “The top-down macro world expects this earnings season’s messiness and ensuing negative revisions to drive the next leg lower for risk-assets, but bottoms-up guys know that much of the surprising ‘in-aggregate’ positive earnings revision YTD is about inflation in commodities-centric industries,” he said, on the way to suggesting Microsoft holds the keys. “Say MSFT reports earnings next week which, yes, are weaker and sees the stock trade lower after hours” but aren’t “end of the world” numbers, McElligott wrote, sketching a possible rally catalyst. If, by the following morning, PMs decide the numbers are fine, and that assessment leads to dip-buying, it could be a catalyst for the broader market. I’d note, quickly, that Microsoft’s hiring slowdown is now a fixture of the financial news cycle. Press reports of job cuts at the tech giant started in May and haven’t let up since. That’ll be a focal point when the company reports. “People are going to have a problem I think if MSFT is fine next week,” a client told Charlie.

Okta is an enterprise SSO provider, that's really their claim to fame. it's only relevant to MFA (a potential authentication method) because typically businesses are enabling MFA. you can also use security keys with Okta and we have plenty of aerospace & defense customers as well as regular commercial customers that are piloting security keys with Okta as a stronger form of MFA than traditional OTPs > @Benlax said: kenningston sells a bunch of junk lol

Thursday, August 19, 2021 Futures Up/Down % Last Dow -275.00 0.79% 34,612 S&P 500 -31.25 0.72% 4,362 Nasdaq -86.50 0.58% 14,763 U.S. futures are looking sharply lower, adding to yesterday’s late day slide and tracking weakness in Europe and Asia as noise gets louder that the central bank could start dialing back on pandemic stimulus programs. Stock markets tumbled late Wednesday, closing at the lows after minutes from the July meeting of the FOMC showed a move to pare $80B per month in Treasuries and $40B per month of mortgage securities could happen this year. While there’s still debate regarding the timing and pace, officials said tapering would not necessarily mean an imminent rate increase. European stocks slumped the most in a month as well following the U.S. move. Other factors hitting stocks include China slowing growth fears as the delta variant continues to disrupt global growth. Those fears aren’t helped by a study from the U.K. that showed coronavirus vaccines are less effective against the delta variant and calls from the Biden Administration for a third booster shot. While the next meeting of the FOMC will occur on September 21-22, Fed Chair Jay Powell is scheduled to speak at Jackson Hole next week. Treasuries bounce with yields slipping as the dollar hits its highest levels in about 4-months. Oil prices are falling for a 6th straight day, with WTI crude down over 3%, dropping to around $63 per barrel for WTI as investors remain worried about the outlook for fuel demand as COVID-19 cases surge worldwide Fed officials continue to call for a “taper” sooner. Yesterday St. Louis Fed President James Bullard said he preferred tapering to end by the first quarter of 2022, with the last three months of next year being a “logical place” for a rate increase. Several other Fed officials, including Robert Kaplan of Dallas and Esther George of Kansas City, have urged the central bank to begin removing stimulus as soon as the September meeting in recent days. Fed Chair Jerome Powell may also provide information in remarks to the central bank’s annual research conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, next week. In Asian markets, The Nikkei Index fell -304 points (1.1%) to settle at 27,291, the Shanghai Index fell -19 points to 3,465 and the Hang Seng Index declined -550 points (or 2.1%) to settle at 25,316. In Europe, the German DAX is down over -275 points (1.75%) to 15,685, while the FTSE 100 tumbles -145 points (or over 2%) to trade 7,025. Wednesday, August 18, 2021 Futures Up/Down % Last Dow -64.00 0.18% 35,195 S&P 500 -2.25 0.06% 4,441 Nasdaq 18.50 0.12% 15,015 U.S. futures are looking mixed ahead of the Fed Minutes, with the Dow and S&P slipping, while the tech heavy Nasdaq Corp looks to rebound after underperformance on Tuesday, as major averages fell by the most in four-weeks. Fed Minutes from the prior FOMC meeting (after 2:00 PM today) may show discussions about tapering monthly bond purchases, or just how divided FOMC officials are on the debate. Yesterday, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said the pandemic is “still casting a shadow on economic activity.” Overnight, Minneapolis Federal Reserve President Neel Kashkari said Tuesday that incoming economic data will drive the central bank’s decision on when to taper its asset purchases, noting that it’s “reasonable” to foresee such a move taking place late this year or early next year. Yesterday, the Nasdaq fell -0.9%, Dow -0.8% and S&P 500 -0.7% ended down on a day that started with pressure from Chinese equities and saw mega caps slide and home improvement names sell off after Home Depot Q2 comp sales mix. Today, rival Lowe’s (LOW) reports a beat across the board while retail giant Target (TGT) beats on the top and bottom line with slightly better comps, though shares slip. The S&P closed above Monday’s intraday low of 4,437 and today’s intraday low successfully tested a support level of 4,423, the prior high. The move comes one day after the S&P 500 had posted a 100% rise off its March 2020 closing low. It has now been 328 calendar days since the benchmark index last ended a decline of more than 5% from a record high. The current 328 calendar-day run since then end of a decline of more than 5% from a record high, is the longest such streak since early 2018. In Asian markets, The Nikkei Index rebounded, rising 161 points to 27,585, the Shanghai Index gained 38 points to 3,485, and the Hang Seng Index climbed 121 points to 25,867. In Europe, the German DAX is down -15 points to 15,900, while the FTSE 100 slides over -20 points to 7,155.
