By Alex Lawler LONDON (Reuters) -Oil hit its highest in seven weeks on Tuesday, supported by the European Union's ongoing push for a ban on Russian oil imports that would tighten supply and as investors focused on higher demand from an easing of China's COVID lockdowns. EU foreign ministers failed on Monday in their effort to pressure Hungary to lift its veto on the proposed oil embargo. But some diplomats now point to a May 30-31 summit as the moment for agreement on a phased ban on Russian oil. Brent crude rose as high as $115.69, its highest since March 28, and by 1330 GMT was up 24 cents, or 0.2%, to $114.48. U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude, however, slipped 3 cents to $114.17. "Oil prices have remained near multi-week highs this week, supported by surging gasoline and distillate prices in the U.S., and fears around an EU ban on Russian oil imports remaining in play," said Jeffrey Halley, analyst at brokerage OANDA. Crude has surged in 2022, with Brent hitting $139, its highest since 2008, in early March as Russia's invasion of Ukraine exacerbated supply concerns. Oil also gained support from hopes of demand recovery in China as it looks to ease COVID restrictions, analysts said, and from rising geopolitical tension between the EU and Russia following Sweden and Finland's moves to join NATO. Further support came from figures showing OPEC and allied nations, which include Russia, in April produced far below levels required under a deal to gradually ease record output cuts made during the worst of the pandemic in 2020. "Ultimately, this is a supply-side story," said Fawad Razaqzada, analyst at City Index. "Unless the OPEC and its allies ramp up production and fast, it is difficult to see how prices can go down meaningfully." Also in focus are potential further declines in U.S. fuel inventories. Weekly inventory reports are expected to show a rise in crude stocks and declines in inventories of distillates and gasoline. [EIA/S]

**PivotBoss Pre-Market Video [May 17, 2022]: Fed Chair Powell on Deck** MAY 17, 2022 — TUESDAY AM The ES is currently trading above yHI, which is the key pivot to watch early in the session. A failure to hold above yHI could trigger the development of a bearish FNH and a potential outside day down. The ES and NQ are both trading within the bearish PEMA trigger zone, as well, which offers an opportunity for bears to sell the rip ahead of new lows ahead. Fed Chair Powell speaks later this afternoon at 1pm CT, so all eyes will be on him, with potential headline risk later today. Crude Oil has hit the upper end of its trading range between 115 and 116, and could see a return to the FOMC key level below at 107.85. BTC and ETH are both holding above significant support levels - 25000 and 1700, respectively, and appear to be in a holding pattern ahead of Fed Chair Powell later this afternoon.

By Swati Verma (Reuters) - Gold fell more than 1% to its lowest in 3-1/2 months on Monday as elevated bond yields and overall strength in the dollar dampened bullion demand, even as riskier assets dropped after grim China economic data. A stronger dollar makes gold expensive for overseas buyers, while higher Treasury yields raise the opportunity cost of holding zero-yield bullion. Spot gold was down 0.2% to $1,807.64 per ounce as of 1311 GMT, after earlier hitting its lowest since Jan. 31 at $1,786.60. U.S. gold futures were little changed at $1,808.10. "Spot gold may not stray far from $1,800, suppressed by the might of King Dollar and elevated Treasury yields, while supported by the looming prospects of a recession," said Han Tan, chief market analyst at Exinity. Gold prices are down over 13% since scaling a near-record peak of $2,069.89 an ounce in March. [USD/] [US/] "Having now fallen through the psychologically important threshold of $1,800 an ounce and with the hawkish monetary policy more likely to strengthen than weaken, it is hard to see where gold can now find a short-term foothold," Rupert Rowling, market analyst at Kinesis Money, said in a note. The dollar consolidated near a two-decade peak while risk appetite took a hit after weak economic data from China highlighted fears about a slowdown. [MKTS/GLOB] Silver has found itself caught up in the broader sell-off in equities and gold, being punished for being an industrial metal at a time when growth forecasts are being trimmed, Rowling added. Spot silver gained 0.9% to $21.26 per ounce, after slumping to its lowest since July 2020 on Friday. Platinum rose 0.2% to $940.16 and palladium was up 1.2% to $1,966.80. Johnson Matthey (LON:JMAT) said a surplus in the platinum market should shrink this year and the palladium markets are likely to move back into deficit.

the possible problem with that one is that is a larger cap and those tend to trend, and if the $SPY gets a breath rally it will carry stocks like $RIDE with it, that is why I prefer to see longs in dispear before jumping on it

Good morning @everyone, here are just a few things we need to keep in mind as we head into this week: 1) The broad narrative continues to be dominated by inflation, rate hikes and the possibility of a deeper economic slow down than was previously projected. 2) The April economic data out of China late last night revealed steep declines in retail spending and industrial output due to the Covid lockdowns there, so this will now compound the negative narrative. 3) The S&P Futures are now down about 15 points after trading down to -30 after the Chinese news hit the tape. The levels to watch are 4060 &4100 on the upside and 3980, 3920 & 3880 on the downside. @everyone 4) One important thing to note is that the price action was starting to go against the board narrative late last week so we will have to see if that continues this week. Of course, if that turns out to be the case, then the upside plays will be in favor. We will see how things play out and trade accordingly. A few new setups were added to the watchlist. Remember to respect the stops and that no trade should be taken unless it triggers on a daily close basis. Let's get to work
