Monday, October 18, 2021 U.S. equity futures are looking lower after posting strong gains last week, with oil prices extending their near-term rally into a ninth consecutive week, as concerns over surging inflation pressures and the weakest China growth rate in more than a year tamed optimism linked to a strong start to the third quarter earnings season. Chinese Q3 GDP missed, rising +0.2% q/q vs 0.5% consensus, and was +4.9% y/y vs 5.2% consensus amid a rolling power crisis, supply chain disruptions and a crackdown on the tech sector. In the U.S., the earnings flood begins this week with 72 names in the S&P 500 expected to report quarterly results this week. In corporate news today, Apple (AAPL) is holding its second major launch event of the Fall where it is expected to unveil the first redesign of its MacBook Pro laptop in at least five years (starts at 1:00 PM ET). In Asian markets, The Nikkei Index dipped -43 points to 29,025, the Shanghai Index slipped a few points to settle at 3,568, and the Hang Seng Index rose 78 points to 25,409. In Europe, the German DAX is lower by -0.6% or nearly 100-points to drop below 15,500, while the FTSE 100 dips -0.3% to hold above the 7,200 level. U.S. stocks look to build on last week’s gains where large-cap tech names propelled the advance Friday, with shares of Amazon.com (AMZN) and Tesla (TSLA) each rising more than 3% on no specific news, while the SmallCap Russell 2000 underperformed, falling -0.35% as investors bailed on value stocks for growth stocks. Strong quarterly earnings from Dow component Goldman Sachs (GS) also boosted financials as investors prepare for a flood of reports next week. Shares of cryptocurrency and blockchain-related firms gained last week as bitcoin topped $60,000 for the first time since April, with expectations growing that U.S. regulators would allow a futures-based ETF. entered my ZG contracts at around 1706 witha stop placed below 1695. might hold it overnight or simply move my stop up. I'll see how things progress and if that fucking infrastructure bill can get passed. that might affect spot prices in the commodity market wildly. but I like volatility it provides opportunities

I have to look. I'm watching the futures curve more than opec right now. opec seems to be supportive of higher oil prices in general. so not too concern about opec messing with the oil price. I'm jsut watching it too see it shift to a more backwardated state. that coupled with current economic conditions should be constructive for higher oil. I really like gold here. mostly because I think there is potential for rates to fall as wellas the dollar. it's a very risqué and contrarian view. but I am seeing signs of growth slowing in economic data. this will force rates down. at the same time we have seen very hot CPI data and will continue to see it I think. based on current prices wage inflation ect ect. this could cause a scenario where rates and the dollar fall making gold go to the moon. but we will see. going in small with /ZG rn. trading with a close stop and we will see. I could be wrong but also I could see a scenario where we get deflation which is also very good for the price of gold. only scenario which is bad is where the dollar falls and rates head towards 2% but that would mean we are experiencing so wicked economic growth so Ide just old the boat on hgk1s and cl and ride that train all the way up. The commodity market has been a hard one to read this summer for sure tho

I actually think I'm going to take a shot at ZG here tho. just based on the fact that it sold off right to a trended line I don't think it would hit and bounced like a rubber ball. but I'm definitely setting my stop close and watching the dxy even closer

Thursday, August 5, 2021 Futures Up/Down % Last Dow 55.00 0.16% 34,745 S&P 500 9.25 0.22% 4,404 Nasdaq 33.50 0.22% 15,107 U.S. futures are looking up modestly, rising roughly about 0.2% across the board into one of the heaviest days of corporate earnings of the season, as major averages continue to hold not far off record highs. The S&P 500 index has held the pivotal 4,400 level for over a week now, as overall major averages have moved sideways for two or three weeks now, bolstered by rising on better economic data, earnings results, and an accommodative Fed, which has offset rising Delta variant concerns and fears of further global restrictions to contain the rise in cases and tighter government restrictions in China. Oil prices edge higher after sliding sharply the last 3-days on demand concerns. Bitcoin prices are down about 4% holding just above the $38,000 level while Ethereum slips nearly 4% to 2,600 in the crypto sector. Ahead of tomorrow’s nonfarm payrolls report, investors will get two more labor market data points with the Challenger jobs report at 7:30 and the weekly jobless claims. Euro Stoxx 50 rises 0.5% around best levels for the week. Wednesday’s after-hours big-name earnings were disappointing for the most part, which could weigh on sentiment. Major averages ended the session mixed on Wednesday, following conflicting signals on the economy that showed a hot services sector, but a labor market that continues to struggle to find workers. The Institute for Supply Management survey on Wednesday jumped to a record high of 64.1 in July, but the ADP Employment Report showed private payrolls only rose by 330,000 last month, well shy of the 695,000 estimate ahead of tomorrow’s payrolls. The Dow Jones saw the biggest fall, dragged lower by a decline of more than 6% in Amgen in the wake of its quarterly results, accounting for about 103 points to the downside while energy was the weakest sector on the day, suffering its biggest daily percentage drop since July 19. In Asian markets, The Nikkei Index gained 144 points to 27,728, the Shanghai Index dipped -10 points to 3,466 and the Hang Seng Index declined -221 points (0.84%) to settle at 26,204. In Europe, markets are little changed as the German DAX is up a few points at the 15,700 level, while the FTSE 100 is down a couple of points at 7.120.
